Mayor Bowser announced that Washington, DC could initiate Stage 1 of reopening as early as Friday, May 29, barring a spike in cases. Under this plan, mass gatherings greater than 10 people are still banned, but limited low-risk activities with strong safeguards in place are allowed. The Mayor is reviewing all of the guidelines released yesterday and will be sharing a Mayor’s Order with opening requirements by stage.
What this means for us, as an essential business is not all that much. We remain open at U Street Capsule Hostel – the first high-end capsule hostel in the United States. However, we do expect a small uptick in travelers, due to some of the business openings, and federal facilities on a small scale – especially the ones outside.
We do expect an overall better experience, as Phase 2 should follow a week or two after that, and that means guests will be able to take advantage of our FREE gyms, with sauna, steam rooms, and other amenities throughout the city. Additional our partnership with Leon.co for breakfast options will be back up and running with Phase 2, as well as our own breakfast – thus quality of life will improve!
Meanwhile Capital View and DC Lofty (part of our hostel family) remain closed, while U Street will be receiving further improvements, during this low occupancy downtime. We plan to reorganize one of the large rooms into two smaller ones, as well as complete our goal of high-end storage options in the rooms, and around the facility.
We’re exploring more fun stuff, like developing a coffee shop on the first floor, with some snacks, and that could also be completed over the expected super slow season of October/November/ December!
We are open at U street Capsule Hostel and we’re looking forward to hosting you! Check it out at Ustreethostel.com – and our instagram @ustreethostel
